I setup Wyatt Analytical Ltd. in June 2021 to continue doing what I’ve been doing for most of my career – helping scientists of various disciplines get the analytical data they need to to progress their work. I offer a range of mass spectrometry and allied services, problem solving, project management and consultancy to both academia and industry.
Appointed Secretary of the RSC South East Wales Local Section in January 2022. In June 2021, founded Wyatt Analytical Ltd. following voluntary severance from Swansea University. From 2018-2021 headed up NMSF at Swansea, the phoenix facility that in January 2019 rose from the ashes of the former EPSRC UK Mid-Range Facility for mass spectrometry, following non-renewal of funding. Awarded CChem status from the RSC in 2017. Joined the Swansea laboratories (previously funded by EPSRC and named UK NMSF and UK NMSSC) in 2002 as a Research Officer to develop the MALDI-TOF service, later being promoted to Senior Research Officer. Involved with laboratory management, commercial contract negotiation, service & research analyses, education & training, publicity and outreach activities during my time at Swansea. Completed Ph.D. in 2002, entitled “Analysis of Acrylic Polymers by MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry“ from the IRC in Polymer Science and Technology at Durham University. The project was supervised by Prof. Randal Richards, in collaboration with Dr Tony Jackson at ICI Technology. The previous twelve months were spent in Analytical Services at Eli Lilly in Speke. Graduated in 1997 with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry with Industrial Chemistry from the University of Liverpool, which included a year spent at the Chemical Services laboratory at BNFL Springfields site.
